Replacements

If we still have the item to be replaced, as for instance in a situation where we are replacing an item in poor condition with a donated copy in better condition, leave the item to be replaced on the shelf until the replacement copy arrives.

However, if the item is completely unusable, for example if it got wet, is falling apart, lost a large number of pages, etc., then place it in the Discards Area, and change the item record STATUS to: r IN REPAIR (unless Circulation has already changed the STATUS).

When the replacement copy arrives, a printout of the order record will be attached to it, with the barcode number of the original item in a note. At this point, pull the original copy from the shelves and begin the discard procedure for it.

Then catalog the new copy - if it is an exact duplicate, suppress the item record for the original copy (ICODE2 = n SUPPRESS). Then create a new item record and catalog as usual. Since the old item will be discarded, there is no need for a copy number.

Attach a RE-SHELVE flag to the item and send to Processing.
