Physical Processing of Rare Books

Music on compact discs

Recommended search stragegy for OCLC:

   Title
   Corp/Conf Name (for a group)  or   Personal Name (for an individual performer)
   Format: Sound Recordings
   Material Type: CD audio
 can also use: Publisher ; ISBN ; Standard Number ; Publisher Number

Apply constant data record 949 Music CD. Copy and paste Sierra bib record number and scan in barcode as usual. Add a subfield a to the item record field (949 _1) and enter the call number. See Music Call Numbers box for more information.

After exporting the record, open it in Sierra and do the following:

Bibliographic record -

   If the bib record has dtmcd lin the LOCATION field, delete it so that only the dt  UHD location appears.

   Make sure that BCODE2 is set to q (AUDIO CD) and the BCODE3 is no longer suppressed

Item record - 

  1. Insert a p Pre-Stamp field and press Ctrl+F11 to enter: MUSIC 
  2. If there is more than just 1 disc and/or supplementary material in the container, insert a x NOTE alerting Circulation staff, such as: x NOTE  Check for 2 discs + 1 booklet. Supplementary material requires a note when it: is described in the bibliographic record, especially in 300 $e; is described on the disc container; or is placed in the container in a way that anyone looking at the container would realize that something is missing. In other words, we only need item record notes for materials that patrons are likely to realize is missing and therefore inquire about.

Term 1: UHD music classification
Term 2: Cutter number for composer (Classical) or artist (every other category)
Term 3: Cutter number for title
Term 4: Year of issue
