UHD will lend all materials and formats except the following:
- Reference materials
- Reserve materials
- Special collections
- Rare or poor condition materials
- Computer software
- Bound periodicals
- Unbound periodicals
- Electronic resources
Microforms
- Will lend microfilm and microfiche
- Maximum of four reels of microfilm or 100 sheets of microfiche at a time per institution.
Audio-Visual
- Will lend CDs, DVDs, and videos on a title by title basis
Lending Exceptions to UH System Libraries
- Will lend periodicals on a case-by-case basis to UH and UHCL libraries.
- Loan periods for these materials will vary.
Loan Period
- Twelve weeks with no renewals.
- Items are subject to recall.
- Libraries that routinely keep materials beyond the loan period may be denied further loans.
Charges
Billing Procedures
- Send invoice. UHD is IFM.
- No overdue fines will be charged.
- Replacement/processing charge: Libraries that fail to return an item within 30 days past the 3rd overdue notice (whether or not notices are received) will be billed at full replacement cost of the item plus a $10 processing fee. Processing fee is waived for Amigos member libraries.
- Libraries with outstanding charges will be denied service until the payment is made or the item is returned
- Replacement copies for lost/overdue materials will not be accepted.
- Refunds may be given for items returned after an invoice is paid. Refunds will not be considered after 30 days from payment date. Materials found after that point remain the property of the borrower.
Packing Requirements for Mailing
- Will accept jiffy bags. Please send all media items in a box.
Service Suspended During Winter Holiday Break
- Service suspended from approximately December 23 through January 2. See our Library Hours page for specific hours and closures.
Loans to Foreign Countries
- Will lend to Canada
- Will send electronic copies internationally
Response Time
- ILL requests that are received by 8 a.m. are researched the same day.
