According to the Web Accessibility Initiative, digital or web accessibility means that websites, tools, and technologies are designed and developed so that people with disabilities can use them. A UHD learner with a disability must be able to obtain the information as fully, equally and independently as a person without a disability. Designing accessible digital spaces enhances the overall learner experience and allows everyone to engage with digital content in the way that works best for them.
Digital Accessibility benefits people with disabilities including, vision, auditory, speech, neurological, cognitive and physical, but also benefits the aging population, temporary disabilities, those struggling with mental health, or anyone else that needs it. Digital accessibility is essential to
1. Ensure compliance,
2. Build opportunities for people with disabilities, and
3. Provide an improved experience for all users.
