UHD Course Reserves

Welcome to the library's guide to E-Reserve!

Course Reserves Overview

The W.I. Dykes Library is currently NOT physically accessible due to COVID-19. See – Library COVID-19 Updates.

Only electronic resources are available for course reserves.

What are course reserves?

Course reserves are supplemental materials that instructors can reserve at the W.I. Dykes Library for their students to use in conjunction with the classes they teach at the University of Houston-Downtown.

Typically, most course reserves consist of physical materials that are available at the library’s fifth-floor circulation desk of the One Main Building. Due to the limited availability of these course reserves, the library assigns shorter loan periods to students, who are required to provide a university identification card for checkout.

What types of materials are available on course reserves?

At this time, only electronic resources:

  • Scanned book chapters or excerpts (10% or less of a copyrighted book is the Fair Use standard)
  • Electronic journal articles found in UHD library databases (subject to license)
  • Electronic books found within LibSearch or the Primo Catalog
  • Newspaper portions or excerpts
  • Original student projects or papers (Original Materials Permission Form Required)
  • Course syllabi, lecture notes, and tests
  • PowerPoint presentations, Excel spreadsheets, Word documents, etc

What types of materials are NOT available on course reserves?
