Using the Library

Welcome to the Medicine & Health LibGuide!  This tool should be able to provide you with a number of resources, designed to answer all of your research needs.

As you begin to research your questions, here is a general strategy for how to get the most out of our library resources.

1) Have a search strategy in mind before you start examining resources.  Based on the problem or question you're attempting to solve, you should be able to assume that certain words will appear in relevant resources.  You may also find new ones as you search.  Note them all down and keep doing the same search in lots of different databases.

2) Eventually you'll identify journal articles and books that you want to use.  Some will have the full text available as soon as you find them.  Others will only give you the citation information.  In those cases, make a note of the title, author, etc, and then go to the library catalog or our LibSearch tool.  You can use that to identify the library holdings for the title in question.

3) If UHD doesn't have the materials you need, don't fret!  Use the Interlibrary Loan page to request a copy of your needed material.  Read all about ILL here.

Citing and Writing Help

Research at the university level can be intimidating. If you have questions about how to find information, our librarians are always ready to help, but sometimes it is good to have a written explanation that lets you see the big picture and learn at your own pace. These guides introduce concepts that may help you understand research assignments and learn to find good sources.
