Searching Medline with Full Text: An Introduction: Subject Searching (MeSH)

Medline is a comprehensive index of biomedical research journals in medicine, nursing, healthcare, biology, biochemistry, biotechnology, and related fields.

MeSH Searching

Begin by entering a term, then click Browse to see the list of official subjects and concepts.


Check the box (1) next to each term you want to include in your search.

Click the scope note (2) to see a definition of the term and a list of subheadings that show related conditions and concepts. Use these notes to pick the best terms for your search. Write down appropriate subheadings in case you need them later.

Use the Major Concept option (3) to limit your search results to the most relevant articles.

Click Search Database (4) when you are ready to see the search results.
