CHEM 3201- Organic Chemistry I Laboratory

This guide is designed to assist student with an Organic Chemistry I Lab assignment, and how to use some specific chemistry resources.

Aldrich Library... Spectra

Each of the sets of The Aldrich Library Spectra books work the same in how you use them.  This guide will work for which ever type of spectra you are trying to find.

Aldrich Library of FT-IR Spectra

Aldrich Library of 13C and 1H FT NMR Spectra

First find the chemical in the index.  This will tell you where in the set the graph is located.  For Ethyl alcohol, denatured it is showing 1, 160 C.  That reads as Volume 1, page 160 graph C on the page.

In case you don't see the chemical by the synonym you choose, you can look it up by the CAS registry number.  the CAS for Ethanol is 64-17-5, and looking in the CAS index it shows me that the graph is on 1, 160 C.  That reads as Volume 1, page 160 graph C on the page.  The same as above.

Here we have flipped to page 160 in volume 1.

1.  The letter {in this case C)of the graph is on the upper right hand side of the page.

2,  You can also see the name of the compound, just to verify you flipped to the correct page.

3.  The CAS registry number is also displayed so you can verify you found the correct compound.
