Margaret Herrick was the first librarian of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Named in her honor in 1971, the Margaret Herrick Library holds one of the most extensive collections of movie-related materials in the world. The library's digital collections, however, are a work in progress and more modestly sized. This free database currently contains around 3,000 items, which are split into 16 collections. These include the Academy Awards Collection, Academy Publications, the American Society of Cinematographers Collection, Cecil B. DeMille Photographs, Alfred Hitchcock Papers, Mary Pickford Papers, and Adolph Zukor Correspondence. The offerings here are fascinating and likely to be of value to both researchers and the movie-loving public (e.g., Oscar ceremony photographs from 1927 onward, the full text of many academy publications, and a nice selection of silent film sheet music).
