Additional Distance & Online Services for Faculty

Faculty teaching classes at a distance site or online can take advantage of the same services available to distance students.  In addition, the library offers the following services to faculty and adjuncts.  For a full list of services the library offers go to Information for Faculty and Staff

  • Library Instruction for your class at your distance location.  To request an instruction session or for more information about what library instruction can do for you take a look at the instruction page.  A librarian can work with you to customize library instruction best suited for your class. Some options include:
    • Course-Related Instruction. Finding materials in support of your specific course and assignments in a face to face environment at your distance location.
    • Course-Integrated Instruction. We can collaborate with faculty to integrate information literacy skills and library instruction throughout your course. This can include lectures, learning activities, out-of-class assignments, and short sessions throughout the semester. Team teaching is welcome and encouraged. We can also “embed” librarians in online courses.
    • Library-Related Assignments. We can collaborate in reviewing and developing library-related assignments.
    • Subject Guides and Pathfinders. The library has a number of Class Guides available. Please contact your subject librarian about creating a Class Guide to support your course objectives.
  • Course Reserves.  Faculty members can put library or personal materials on Course Reserves.  This service provides your students with access to books, videos, and articles.  Besides placing a physical copy on an item in the library, some material is suitable to be placed on electronic reserves, such as articles and chapters of books.  Information about course reserves can be located on the Course Reserves page.
  • Interlibrary Loan.  Faculty members may request any item not owned by the UH-System Libraries through Interlibrary Loan. These materials can also be delivered to the Distance Education sites for check out. First create an account through My Interlibrary Loan; click on "First Time Users" to set up your account.
